- It's important to have standard links in addition to javascript links, that is, if your site is using JavaScript. The reason for it is that search engines can't follow these javascript links and you don’t want that to happen.
- Don't try to rank well for a one-word query - since there are so many websites that use the same word and want to rank highly, you can't really be special amongst them. Another reason is that users don’t usually search for single words; they use more than one word per search query.
- Remember that if you are an informative website, your visitors can find your pages with a huge variety of queries so don't focus only on top searches. They may get you the highest amount of people compared to an average rated search, but you have so many of these "mid - quality" queries that you have to count them in.
- Don't misunderstand the situation when your rankings are going up or down. Most webmasters might think that the recent change they've done to their site is the reason of the rank change. It's not exactly true since there are many factors that don't depend on the site creator like: a change in a search engine algorithm, a change in your competitors' sites, an old change you did to your site some months ago.
- You must promote each of your pages. Remember that your visitors can find inner pages directly via search engines, so they need to have proper keywords and have good and useful information. As mentioned, it's better to promote several web pages than to promote only your homepage so there would be more search queries that suit your site. Each inner page should be logical and understandable even if we "landed" on it directly.
- External links must be of a value to your customers. Check the sites before you link to them and think of the value your visitors get from visiting this webpage. It doesn't really matter if the page rank of these linked web pages is high or low, good information is the most important thing.
